#12 TRAVELING THE WORLD
Okay, crew, it’s time to spill the tea on what really happens when you’re traveling the world with kids, running a business, and trying to stay sane. We’re coming to you straight from the beaches of Pattaya, Thailand—way more chill than the last time you heard from us in Vegas.
This episode? It’s all about the messy, the magical, and the downright mental moments from our travels. Sure, Instagram makes it look dreamy, but we’re here to tell you about the real side of travel:
- Like the time we almost got married by Elvis in Vegas (spoiler alert: it was not what we expected).
- How we managed a full-blown family flu while trying to keep up with our business and our jet-setting schedule.
- The truth about traveling with kids, from jet lag to snacks to “are we there yet?” moments on repeat.
We’re diving deep into what it’s really like to wake up in a different country every other week, to keep grinding when you’d rather crash, and to find joy in the chaos of it all.
In this episode of Spill the Tea, we share:
00:01:50 – 00:08:47 - Vegas and the Strip Club “Miscommunication”: We kick things off by sharing our Vegas experience - what was supposed to be a wild, glamorous trip turned into a flu-filled, chaotic adventure. We also talk about the missed opportunity to get married by Elvis and the fight we has soon after due to Beau’s visit to the biggest strip club in the world.
00:08:47 – 00:17:22 - The Aftermath of Our Fight, Travelling from Vegas to LA by Bus and Still Showing Up to Do Our Work: After Vegas, we made our way to LA. After an emotional morning filled with frustration and unresolved tension, we ended up taking a bus to LA. Despite the setbacks, including a grueling bus ride that left us feeling nauseous and exhausted, we pushed through. The discomfort and disagreement didn’t stop us from showing up for work, though. We arrived in LA late and immediately got to work, with one of us setting up a makeshift office in the tiniest hotel gym imaginable. It was a struggle, feeling sick and overwhelmed, but we did what we had to do to serve our audience and keep moving forward. This experience taught us an important lesson about resilience: even when things don’t go as planned, it’s about showing up, doing the work, and making the best of any situation. Life and work aren’t always perfect, but success comes from handling the chaos with grace and determination.
00:17:22 – 00:24:03 - Family Experiences & Overcoming Fear: Our highest value in life is giving our family experiences and creating those memories. And honestly, flying? Beau still hates it. Every time we board, there’s this anxiety that hits and the brain just goes straight into Final Destination mode. It’s that constant battle—what’s intuition and what’s just plain old anxiety? But,we push through it because we know that’s how we break through the comfort zone. And sometimes, you gotta do that to get to the next level, right? It’s the same with starting a business - those doubts, that inner voice telling you not to do it, trying to protect you. But deep down, you know you gotta go for it. It’s that same feeling I get when I face my fears—turning anxiety into excitement, shifting my mindset, and just going for it.
00:24:03 – 00:35:25 - Homelessness and Addiction Crisis in Vancouver: We stayed in Vancouver a bit longer than planned, and the state of homelessness there was something we've never experienced. It was shocking, like nothing we’ve ever seen before. We saw people who looked completely zombified, their bodies twisted and contorted in ways we couldn’t comprehend. Hundreds of people, stuck in these awful cycles, many so far gone that we honestly couldn’t see a way back for them. It really hit us hard because we kept thinking about how these people were once kids, innocent and full of potential, and now look at them. What happened to them? How could their lives have been different if someone just showed them love or support? It made us realize that addiction is all about connection, about feeling loved. It's about wanting to be seen, heard, and held. And for a lot of these people, that need was never met.
00:35:25 – 00:57:52 - White Christmas in Whistler and New Holiday Traditions: Kirsty wasn’t sure about going to Whistler - she really didn’t want to deal with the cold, especially after the miserable weather in Vancouver. But Beau was beyond excited about seeing snow for the first time, so we went to Whistler and as soon as we got there Kirsty felt this wave of gratitude and connection that she hadn’t experienced in years. It was like everything she’d pushed aside—the adventurous side of her, the thrill of snowboarding and skiing - was reawakened. She’d buried that part of herself for so long, choosing addiction at her young age and the responsibilities of being a parent later on over adventure. Kirsty then reflects on her journey of self-development that started when she was only 19 and how one book changed her entire life.
We also talk about how Christmas feels different without our extended family around and overcoming guilt related to past “buy the kids all the gifts” habits and focusing instead on creating meaningful experiences for our children.
57:52 – 02:00:00 - How Our Freedom Became Our Bottleneck and What Traveling in 2024 Has Thought Us: To close the episode, we share our reflections on our travels, the lessons learned, and how we plan to approach future travels with more intentionality and structure. Definitely more structure.
Here’s to an amazing 2025, guys!!
